Having abandoned his royal birthright within the Shakya clan, Siddhartha sets out on a transformative spiritual pilgrimage to comprehend the mysteries of human existence. Along his arduous trek, he encounters unique companions, including Assaji, a young boy with prophetic visions, and Depa, a devoted monk. As Siddhartha confronts the widespread poverty, illness, and despair plaguing the land, his internal crisis grows deeper. Meanwhile, political tensions escalate into violence as Prince Ruri of Kosala launches a brutal military campaign against the Shakya kingdom.
